Mobile phones are convenient and frequently invaluable, yet exposure to their electromagnetic radiation is invisible. Therefore, any danger this exposure poses may be easily dismissed.

However, a study by an award-winning cancer expert Vini Gautam Khurana PhD, FRACS, has concluded that mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos.

Following fourteen months of research involving a comprehensive review of over 100 sources in the recent medical and scientific literature in addition to the Press and Internet, the author concluded that there is a growing body of statistically significant evidence for a relationship between the overall length of use of a mobile phone and the delayed occurrence of a brain tumor on the same side of the head as the "preferred side" for mobile phone usage.

The elevated risk (increased odds) appears to be in the order of 2 - 4 fold. It is postulated that some individuals may be more susceptible to developing a malignant brain tumor when compared to others exposed to similar durations and strengths of electromagnetic radiation. The effects of this kind of radiation are likely to be cumulative and long-term.

Malignant brain tumors represent "a life-ending diagnosis", he adds: "We are currently experiencing a reactively unchecked and dangerous situation." He fears that "unless the industry and governments take immediate and decisive steps", the incidence of malignant brain tumors and associated death rate will be observed to rise globally within a decade from now, by which time it may be far too late to intervene medically.

He alarms people to avoid using mobile phones wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must take "immediate steps" to reduce exposure to their radiation.

The French government has already warned against the use of mobile phones, especially by children. Germany also advises its people to minimize handset use, and the European Environment Agency has called for exposures to be reduced.
